A Word from the Worshipful Master
Greetings from the East
Worshipful Master Tony Arriagada, Shem Lodge No. 8, Phoenix, Arizona (2026)
Friends and brothers,
Whether you have known Freemasonry your whole life or are just hearing about us, welcome. What we do here is simple. We are ordinary men who meet to become better ones and to help our neighbors along the way.
Good tools do no good sitting in a drawer, and neither do good people. What we know and what we have mean little until we use them for someone else. So we show up, we learn, and we serve.
A few words guide us: heritage, unity, faith, and charity. In plain terms, we honor those who came before us, we treat one another with respect even when we disagree, and we put kindness ahead of any title.
A Lodge is not measured by how many names are on its roll. It is measured by the character of its people and the good they do.
We work today so those who follow us inherit something stronger.
Fraternally and faithfully,
/s/ Tony Arriagada∴
Worshipful Master, Shem Lodge No. 8
Faith, Hope, Charity.
Anthony "Tony" Arriagada, 32°/90°
Anthony "Tony" Arriagada is the founding Worshipful Master of Shem Lodge No. 8. He began his Masonic journey in 2013 at Eagle Lodge No. 8, where he was raised a Master Mason under Worshipful Master Marcus Hill, 33°/96°, and later served as Senior Warden of Eagle Lodge No. 1 under the Most Worshipful Isaac Grand Lodge A.F. & A.M. of Texas. He holds the 32° of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite and the 90° of the Ancient and Primitive Rite of Memphis-Misraïm, and in 2026 received the Donnie Jackson Five Points of Fellowship Award. By dispensation from Grand Master Weston Jarvis, 33°/99°, he established Shem Lodge No. 8 in Phoenix, Arizona on June 16, 2026, and now labors in the Joe McFadden District under District Deputy Grand Master Christopher Jackson, guided by a simple charge: to take good men and make them better, to serve the community, and to raise a permanent home for the brothers who follow.
In his professional life, Brother Arriagada is a commanding force in enterprise technology. For more than twenty years he has driven digital transformation, artificial intelligence strategy, and product innovation at the highest levels of government, healthcare, defense, and enterprise, trusted by C-suite leaders to turn bold vision into decisive execution. As Chief Technology Officer of the Ash Hole Cigar Club, a global cigar community of more than thirty international chapters, he commands its technology strategy and is pioneering the digitization of cigar craftsmanship from seed to smoke through IoT, data, and cloud platforms. Where others follow trends, he sets the standard, planting his authority firmly at the forefront of both the technology and cigar industries.
Who Does What
Who runs the Lodge, in plain terms
Every lodge is run by a small team of elected officers, each with a clear job. Here is what each one does, explained simply, with no Masonic background needed.
Worshipful Master
The Worshipful Master is the elected head of the Lodge for the year, much like a president. He runs the meetings, sets the direction and goals, makes sure things are done fairly and in good order, and represents the Lodge to the public and to the larger Masonic organization it belongs to.
Senior Warden
The Senior Warden is the second-in-command, similar to a vice president. He helps the Worshipful Master run the Lodge, keeps the work moving, and takes charge of meetings whenever the Worshipful Master cannot be there.
Junior Warden
The Junior Warden looks after the members' well-being and fellowship. He oversees meals and social time, helps keep meetings running on schedule, and encourages everyone to treat one another with respect.
Secretary
The Secretary is the record keeper. He writes down what happens at each meeting, handles the Lodge's mail and email, keeps the membership list up to date, and tracks dues and other paperwork.
Treasurer
The Treasurer manages the money. He safely holds the Lodge's funds and pays bills only after the members approve the expense, keeping the finances honest and clearly accounted for.

Our regular monthly communication is held on the third Saturday of each month at 11:00 a.m. in Phoenix, Arizona. A Weekly Evening Briefing is held by video every Wednesday at 9:00 p.m. Mountain Standard Time.

Brother DeJuan L. Spires
Brother DeJuan L. Spires, 19°/90°, is a Master Mason of Shem Lodge No. 8, A.F. & A.M., where he currently serves as Senior Warden. He holds the 19° of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite and the 90° of the Ancient and Primitive Rite of Memphis-Misraïm. He is devoted to strengthening the Craft and to fostering fellowship, education, and service within the Lodge. Beyond Freemasonry, he works in logistics and is an electronic music producer and DJ. In both his personal and professional life, he strives to live by the principles of Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth.
